Shopping Attractions in Kuala Lumpur

Over the last decade, Malaysia has been aggressive promoted as a shopping hub for visitors and tourists in the region. As such, there have been several large shopping malls and complexes which have been built and established to cater for the visitors. Today, some of the top fashion brands of the world are now available in Malaysia with a booming travel industry.

Shopping everywhere in Malaysia

Anyone visiting Malaysia will be totally spoilt for choice when it comes to shopping. Whether it is luxury brands like Prada and Louis Vutton or local cultural textile, there are places to shop at every corner of the country and most prominently so in Kuala Lumpur. Here are some of the top picks.

MidValley Megamall and The Gardens

MidValley Megamall – Perhaps the most popular shopping centre among the locals and tourists, this is one of the largest malls around which is conveniently located between Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. MidValley houses some of the top fashion brands like Superdry and Zara while there is a cinema and exhibition hall here as well which has been awarded the Best Shopping Complex by Tourism Malaysia in 2000.

The Gardens Mall – This mall is part of the MidValley Megamall but is often seen as a separate entity as it houses more luxury and upscale fashion brands like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Gucci and Burberry, among others as well as its own premier cinema outlet.

Suria KLCC

Suria KLCC – This mall enjoys the close affiliation with the Petronas Twin Towers as it is located right below this iconic structure. There are 6 floors of shopping spaces here that offer all ranges of retail brands. There are the upscale brands and 2 department stores while there is the Petronas Art Gallery, the Dewan Filharmonik Orkestra and a science centre as well. One factor which makes Suria KLCC so popular is that it is just below the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – This is one of the latest additions to the shopping haven in Kuala Lumpur. This haute couture shopping has several top fashion brands as well as a Parkson department store. Besides that, there are brands for people from all ages like Puma, Adidas and a very popular food court at the lower level of the mall. This is one shopping centre which was recently opened and build on the land formerly of the Bukit Bintang Girls’ School. Today, it is still expanding in size to offer more shopping options for its customers.

The Jalan Sultan Ismail Shopping Enclave

Along the Jalan Sutlan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang intersection, there are several shopping centres which have been around for decades and are still very popular to present day. This includes:

  1. Sungei Wang Plaza – This mall is one of the most popular places to shop in Kuala Lumpur and is one of the most established. It has been around as ‘the’ place to go if you are looking to shop for affordable clothes and items. Sungei Wang Plaza is connected to BB Plaza which houses the Metrojaya department store as well as shops that sell souvenirs and crafts and cultural items.
  2. Lot 10 – Located at the primary shopping square of Kuala Lumpur, Lot 10 houses several retail brands, an Isetan department store and the very popular Hutong Food Court.
  3. Low Yat Plaza – If you are looking for any digital or computing gadgets, the Low Yat Plaza next to Sungei Wang Plaza is the place to go where there are floors of shops, kiosks, outlets that offer all types of gadgets at the lowest prices.
  4. Berjaya Times Square – This is the mammoth shopping mall in Bukit Bintang which has almost everything. Besides the floors of retail stores, there is a hotel, apartments and offices all housed within its twin buildings of this award-winning shopping mall.
