The northern state of Kedah has a lot of attractions for those who like nature and culture. You can visit the religious sites, some historical places or even climb the mountain.
Highest peak in the state
The highest peak in the northern state of Kedah is Mount Jerai. Previously known as Kedah Peak, it is located along the border of Kuala Muda and the Yand districts. Legend has it and it was written at the peak although not factually proven that the mountain used to be an island called Pulau Serai (Serai Island) before the water level receded, leaving behind a mountainous rock. It is a huge limestone outcrop that elevates to 1200 meters above sea level.
Great place with great view
Mount Jerai is not as celebrated like other highlands although its cool and refreshing air definitely matches to the others if not better. Along the highlands, one is able to see the rows and rows of paddy fields lined up, providing a breathtaking and unforgettable view. One could also see the state of Perlis located towards the north and the beautiful seas engulfing Penang island. in the mountains, one would be able to see various herbs and ferns grown in within the Sungai Teroi Forest Recreation Park.
What to expect in Gunung Jerai
If you hike to the top of the mountain, you would come to the Museum of Forestry. This is where you will be able to find out more about the rich Malaysian forestry within a traditional Malaysian home structure. The museum can be easily reached as it is within a stone’s throw away form the Peranginan Gunung Jerai Resort.
